Batman Unseen #4 - DC

Nigel Glass . . the Invisible Man, really has nothing going for him. Well . . other than that he's invisible. I mean . . he's not an exceptional athlete . . he's not obscenely intelligent . . he probably stumbled upon this tranlux formula by accident. But . . he has a certain amount of madness, which makes him unpredictable. And . . there's a certain advantage to not being able to be seen during a fight. Anyways, Jim has found a body floating in the river. It turns out to be a hood that worked for the Black Mask. Clutched in his cold dead hands is a mask . . a mask of the Invisible Man. You know . . like from the movies. This leads Batman to an abandoned costume warehouse. There he finds a tied up and beaten Black Mask, and eventually . . Nigel Glass. Or rather, Nigel finds him. With the end of his fists . . over . . and over . . and over . . until Batman just can't take it any more. Anyways, long story short . . because it's really just a big ol' long slugfest . . Batman keeps up his stamina long enough to stop Nigel from killing the Black Mask. He's also fighting long enough that his translux formula is starting to wear off. At first Batman can see bones, and then organs and muscle. So Nigel gives up and jumps into the river to get away. To be honest . . I'm not overly thrilled with this story. I expected much better from Doug Moench. I mean . . it's not terrible. It's just rather predictable. And in the end . . who really cares about this guy? I dig Kelley Jones' art, but really . . that's the best part about the whole book. If you haven't picked this up, and you're interested . . wait for the TPB. And you can even wait long enough to get it from the library. Sorry . . it's just my opinion.
