I spend a lot of time and money buying and reading comics. Most of the time I'm happy with my choices, sometimes not. I'm hoping, that with my reviews on what I've read, I might spare someone else dissapointment. I'll read anything, but I can't afford everything. If there's something you'd like for me to read, let me know. If you take the time to read this, please, take the time to let me know what you think. I may not agree with you, or you may not agree with me. But, so what. That's life.

Vigilante #8 - DC
Marv Wolfman has put together a nice little police drama here. I know the Vigilante is the star of this book, but our star isn't in costume for very many pages here. Mostly, he's Joe Flynn. But after this issue, that identity is kaput. Also this issue, the FBI, and thereby Tobias Whale, figure out that Joe Flynn isn't actually Joe Flynn. The real Joe died a few years ago. So now they both know that he can change his identity. Remember last issue Tobias took the 15 guys that were in jail the same time Vigilante was there, out to a warehouse to kill them. Joe's was the only body they didn't find. The process of elimination is a bitch. So he and JJ are on their way to Chicago now. However, he really wants to wrap up this business with the Whale before he leaves. But he's going to have to hurry because Solomon Bennett, the crime-boss, has put him on notice. "I want to thank you, Tobias. Since the late 80's the New York mobs have been fractured. You did what I never could. You got New York back together again. And since Penguin's already flown the coop, our first order of business . . is to get you to join him. You don't have to go to Gotham. You can go anywhere that's not here." And we finally find out what all the connection is here. He's at the grave of his late wife, telling her he probably won't be back again, when he comes to his fateful decision . . "If I want Tobias Whale, I'm going to have to make an unholy alliance with Solomon Bennett . . your father." Yes, his late wife, Marsha, was Solomon Bennett's daughter. We knew he was connected to somebody, but we didn't know who. We find out it's the man on top. I enjoyed the book. I'm surprised that Rick Leonardi is still with us, but . . that's a good thing. Also Walt Simonson is still doing the covers. Next issue they should be wrapping this all up and then we'll be moving on to the next story-line. I'd really like to know how he knows Adrian Chase.

This has been decent title for the crime, Punisher style comic without an event or theme looming over its head. But low sales (11,000 units ONLY in June 2009 to rank 161) more or less means it'll be gone before the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteAhh . . I didn't expect it last very long. I just find it interesting to see what DC will do to try to create a Punisher type character.
