We saw in Darkest Night #1 when J'onn came to the cemetery looking for Barry and Hal. This issue we actually see his resurrection and the rest of their battle. One thing I noticed in this issue though is that, I think, somehow with Barry's connection to the Black Flash . . explained in the Rebirth series, if you're not reading it . . I think that connection somehow works like a radar for these Black Lanterns. He seems to start to convert to that 'death' Flash whenever J'onn is in close proximity. Maybe not, though. Maybe I'm misinterpreting it, but . . something is happening to him and his physiology. I was just thinking that if it is some kind of 'radar', or connection . . maybe he can turn that to their advantage later on in the battle. Anyways, we see that when the dead are 'risen' that they seem to have all of the powers and control that they had when they were alive. Which makes J'onn a threat second only to Superman. But he's definitely out of Barry and Hal's league. At one point, I'm guessing through mental manipulation, he's actually got Barry pounding away at Hal. It seems to me that as this story-line progresses, they're going to have to switch their dance partners to those that they know and have experience with. If they're just fighting whomever pops up in from of them, they could be facing a losing battle here. Plus, right now, it's kind of overwhelming just thinking about the sheer number of people that could become Black Lanterns. Their ranks could be endless. Plus, in this issue, we also see Scar's attack on the rest of the Guardians. Some Lanterns retrieve Laira's body from Ysmault, after she'd been converted to a Red Lantern. But now . . now she's cannon fodder for the Black Lantern's. Agent Orange is attacking Odym trying to get a Blue ring. And on Zamaron, there's a big battle brewing between the Star Sapphires and the Sinestro Corps. Oh yeah, and finally out in Sector 1313, John is thinking about the words that Fatality told him . . she's a Star Sapphire now. He's staring at the debris field left behind by the planet Xanshi, and trying to forgive himself. Then . . the sector is flooded with Black rings. It appears that they're going to resurrect Xanshi and all of it's people. John's response? "Oh damn. This ain't good." I thought this was a great issue. It was good to see Barry back here again. Of course Geoff Johns is doing an incredible job with this story-line. I'm just wondering how he's keeping up with all of his other work. Legion of 3 Worlds came out this week too. Unfortunately he's not going to get much down-time in the near future because this Blackest Night phenomenon is going on at least until October or November. Also I think Doug Mahnke is the perfect choice for this book. The pages where Barry and Hal are fighting J'onn were incredible. I especially like the double splash-page where Barry is going at Hal because he thinks it's J'onn. Also Doug's moody, almost 'dark' style fits in perfectly with the theme right now. There were other specific things that happened this issue, but . . I don't want to give to much away. If you're a 'comic-nut', as am I, this is a story-line you should definitely be reading. You're going to kick yourself if you miss it.
