Supergirl #43 - DC

We finally make a little advance in Kara's life. She's been going back and forth between Earth and New Krypton, and she hasn't really slowed down enough to just enjoy the life around her. Of course she was being attacked by Reactron and Superwoman. And she is banished from Earth, so she's trying to secretly visit as Lana's niece Linda. Most of that has kept her pretty busy. So this issue, as she prepares for her birthday, the day she chooses the guild she's going to take, she takes a little time to reflect, remembering her father and his influence on her life . . and that of her mother's. In the end she realizes, that although she failed her mothers mission of returning Reactron to New Krypton, her mother hasn't been punishing her as she previously thought. Actually, everything her mother has been doing, she's been doing to help. Although her birthday is her Guilding Day, Kara doesn't have as much knowledge of Krypton, and it's cultures, as she needs to make an informed decision. In her own way, her mother has been trying to give her knowledge. While she was visiting the artist that was creating the statue of her father, it looked like she might be leaning towards the Artistic Guild. But in the end, she decides she needs to know more about her mother and so chooses her path . . the Scientific Guild. It wasn't what I expected either. I think Sterling Gates is doing a good job of infusing this book with more personal information and feelings about this character. We've come to know more about her in just the last few issues. I have to say, I was a bit concerned when Joe Kelly left this title. Right now, though, I feel like we're getting back on track. I also think Jamal Igle does a great job with the art. He's definitely brought his own unique look to this book.
