What an awesome issue. It's great to see the X-Men give Norman's Avengers such a sound thrashing. Everything comes together for Scott this issue . . and it's a glorious plan. Warren takes out Bullseye, while Peter takes on Mac, Venom. None of them can overpower the other, but they're all negated because it's a draw. Meanwhile, Dani has returned and the power that she's received from Hela has not only made her a Valkyrie again, but . . "If you want to stop a god, you cut a deal with a god. I'm not . . just a Valkyrie . . I was made to stop gods. So, Ares . . Stop!" And Emma has separated Bob from the Void. Bob and the Void head off into space chasing each other, and Emma is stuck in diamond form because there's a piece of the Void inside of her. All of this revolves around the grand piece of Scott's plan, the island that the X-Club has raised off the ocean floor, a couple of miles off the coast of San Francisco. It's here that Scott's created a sanctuary and home for all the mutants of the world. They're all welcome, and are already arriving in droves. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought at one time there were only 181 left. So there can't be that many. Unless, they're also including former mutants. Anyways, when the battle is over, Scott and the X-Men begin working on their new city. Although Emma does have some concerns . . "I can't be the first to remind you that the last time we lived on an island it didn't work out so well." And, don't forget there's still the business of Hank confronting Scott and Emma about the 'secrets' that seem to be permeating the X-Men's existence right now. This is the second time we've been reminded about Hank's feelings, and it looks like we're finally going to address them in Dark X-Men: the Confession. That should be interesting. All in all it's a fantastic issue. Matt Fractions story is excellent, and the combined artwork of Mike Deodato Jr and Terry Dodson is almost overwhelming. Terry does the flashback scenes, and the scenes with Emma and Scott. Mike handles everything else. I guess we just have 2 books to go in this storyline. The Coffession book that I already listed, and Dark Reign: the List - X-Men #1. I'm not sure what this 'list' thing is all about. It must be what Norman is talking about at the end . ."This is only the beginning. What's coming next is going to change the world." There was an Avengers, 'list' book that came out this week. But I didn't pick it up. I might need to reconsider that. Anyways, I enjoyed this storyline, and this book was a good addition to it.
I spend a lot of time and money buying and reading comics. Most of the time I'm happy with my choices, sometimes not. I'm hoping, that with my reviews on what I've read, I might spare someone else dissapointment. I'll read anything, but I can't afford everything. If there's something you'd like for me to read, let me know. If you take the time to read this, please, take the time to let me know what you think. I may not agree with you, or you may not agree with me. But, so what. That's life.
