First of all . . I'm glad to see Scott Kolins back on the Flash. I know it's only for this mini-series, but . . the me, this is that character that brought him to my attention. He changed his style for this book, and . . he's been going as fast as the Flash ever since. It's great to have you back, buddy. It makes a lot of sense that this is the next Blackest Night mini-series. Something we haven't learned yet has put the Flash on a collision course with these Black Lanterns. But . . besides that, I don't know anyone else out there, besides Batman, that has as many dead loved ones and enemies alike. He's like the perfect target for the Black Lanterns. During the course of this book we find out what we also found out in Blackest Night #5 . . Nekron not only has power over the dead, but also those that have returned from the dead. As we all know Barry did. Plus . . Edbard Thawne has already returned . . alive. He's Barry's arch rival, and the driving force behind the events in Flash: Rebirth. So if that's the case . . how can he also be dead here, and a member of the Black Lanterns? We all know that Barry broke his neck shortly before he himself was sucked into the Speed Force. Not only that . . the Rogues later dug up Thawne's body and cremated it. So if Edbard did come back . . he came back from his Black Lantern form. Because until then . . he didn't have one. Which means that there's a way to save these people . . the ones being reanimated, and give them life. This abomination of existence that they've been birthed into doesn't have to be their final hurrah. Now Barry just has to figure out how Edbard got from his Black Lantern existence, to his actual rebirth. In Blackest Night #5, Zoom gives him a hint . . but it's very vague. 'I have a resurrection of my own in the days ahead, Barry. Thanks to a good friend of yours.' What that means, or who it is . . he has no idea. But now that he's learned that Solovar is also dead and has been returned to this abominable existence . . he has even more reason to try to put the pieces together. At the end of the story, when the Black Ring tries to attach to Barry, he decides to change the plans and orders everyone to get to Coast City. As they've done in Blackest Night #5. Meanwhile, the Rogues are getting ready to fight a war of their own. All of Flash's Rogues have come back, but they've decided to go after the ones that have replaced them, rather than the Flash. They include the Golden Glider, the Top, Mirror Master, Rainbow Raider, the Trickster (James Jesse), Captain Boomerang and Professor Zoom (Edbard Thawne). Owen has also brought Tar Pit with him. When he meets up with his dad he wants someone there to help him that already doesn't have a heart. I thought this was a great opening chapter for this fight by Geoff Johns. He's written some huge potential into this story and I can't wait to see what he does with the next 2 issues. Plus, as we've seen from both this book and Blackest Night #5 . . I think Barry's going to be the key to this whole thing. Or . . at least one of them. Also . . cool covers by Scott and Francis Manapul. They really capture the feel of this book.
